Things to do
Two Heroines Monument
In 1785 the island was under threat from Burmese invaders though Phuket’s governor had just died leaving his widow as the (for want of a better term) stand in governor. She and her sister took great initiative and not only called every troop on the island to power but dressed up the island’s women as soldiers to pad out the army; after a month long siege the Burmese troops retreated and the women were honoured lavishly and hailed as the Phuket’s saviours. This monument is a beautiful tribute to these two heroic women.
Laem Promtheys
This is a popular viewing spot for watching the sun set into the Andaman sea… there’s not much else to say except that it’s incredibly beautiful.
Sirinat National Park
In the 80’s it was decided that the island’s flora and fauna needed protecting from the growing tourist trade so this 90 squared kilometres Phuket’s landmass was dedicated to nature. It is a truly beautiful place and is one of the few spots where sea turtles come to lay their eggs.
Scuba Dive
This is an amazing spot for scuba and there are plentiful places to learn or practise the sport all down the island’s coast. The reefs are in good condition and the marine life abundant… there is even a very exciting wreck off Ter Bay that is 25 metres down and attracts people from far and wide to explore it.
